If we begin to get in touch with whatever we feel with some kind of kindness, our protective shells will melt and we’ll find that more areas of our lives are workable. – Pema Chodron
Revealing Hidden Conversations
Through the day, we regularly pass from personality to personality. We can go from Caretaker to Judge to Striver in a flash. Because of the speed and fluidity of this process, we don’t usually attend to the ways in which this inner community conducts its business. We may notice thoughts running through our heads without recognizing that they emerge from a range of recurrent conversations we carry on with ourselves.
It’s easy to have a poor “self-concept” if when one goes inside one sees only these wild and warring tribal members. Many of us have had experiences in which we learned not to trust our selves. As a result, we can lose touch with our innate resources. Sitting with our emotions, thoughts and feelings with compassion and understanding is the necessary journey to reclaiming all parts of ourselves.
